Two are cited with the surname of BOUCHER, but I believe they are brothers Moise and Joseph that I have not found elsewhere in the 1860: Moses, 20, VT Joseph, 16, VT Per correspondent Bill Calhoun: Thomas in Civil War records and apparently the ancestor of a line in the South. Thomas Bumbard of age 21 - enlisted at Chesterfield NY on 11 Nov 1863 in Co L, 2nd Vet Cav Rgt NY and was mustered out on 8 Nov 1865 at Talladega AL. Marvin Loyd Welborn is a descendant of the following. Family lore originally had the Civil War gent as Charles, but with proof of Charles demise by 1861 and having never enlisted nor left NY, Marvin has revised his information. Thomas Joseph \{Charles Edward\} BOMBARD - Born in 1842 in New York. Thomas Joseph \{Charles Edward\} died in Dec 1879 in Sodas, Old Pleasant Hill (Sabine) LA. \ On 16 Jul 1865 Thomas Joseph \{Charles Edward\} married Olivia "Annie" DAVIS in Talledega, Alabama. They had the following children: Mollie (Molly) Charles Everett "Charlie" (1873-1907) Thomas Tommy (~1878-<1950) Despite repeated searches with numerous search configurations, I have been unable to locate any Bombard in Alabama or Louisiana for the 1870 census. The widow and children are residing in Louisiana with her uncle in 1880.

The 2 brothers were from Keeseville/Ausable Fork, New York, and remained in Louisiana after serving in the Union Army. Annie had 2 sons in 1880: Charles (the brothers' father's name) and Thomas. Charles was born circa 1872 and Thomas, 1878. Annie was widowed by the 1880 census and was living with her uncle, N.H. MILLICAN, age 46; his wife, Annie, and 6 children. Annie subsequently remarried in 1881, to Peter Wallace. What was Annie's maiden name? Was she a Millican? Are there any death records for Thomas and/or Edward Bombard? Are they buried in a local cemetery? Thomas and Edward were my grandfather's uncles. The family has never known their history. Any and all help appreciated. Moses was my great-grandfather. Thomas and Edward stayed in Louisiana and married local women. it was even said that they married Jefferson Davis' nieces, but I have a letter from Ernesto Caldeira of the Jefferson Davis Family Association and he has no knowledge of nieces married to Bombards. The family home in Keeseville is still occupied by Bombards. My mother's first cousin, Edward Bombard, lives in it. I have visited it several times and in fact was just there over Labor Day weekend. Edward and his wife Gladys inherited the house from his father, Roy, who was my grandfather's (Clifford Albert Bombard) brother. Getting ahead of myself. I have the family line all the way back to Jean Bombardier, who married Marie Francoise Guilin in 1670. They were married in Flandre, France. I will mail it to you if you will give me a mailing address. No one in the family (evidently) kept up with Thomas and Edward (you say Charles, rather than Edward; ?? I do show a sibling named Charles, but my information had Thomas, Edward, and Moses in the Civil War). I have been trying off and on for about 5 years to find out their whereabouts. So, from what you are telling me, Annie Davis married Charles Edward Bombard, had at least 2 sons, Charles and Tommy, and was widowed. Since the children appear on the 1880 census as ages 8 and 2 respectively, Charles must have been born around 1872. Annie subsequently married Peter Wallace in 1881 and had at least 2 more sons, Walter and Fred. Your grandmother is the daughter of Annie Davis' son Charles. The Davis name could explain the belief that Jefferson Davis' family was involved! Here are the siblings, as I have them - and I got this on Labor Day from Gladys and Edward Bombard up at Keeseville. Their parents were Charles Bombard IV (1811-1860) and Mathilde (Domithilde) Cheney, 1812-1889. Charles and Mathilde were married in Marieville, Quebec, in 1834. Charles Matilda (or Melissa) Thomas (fought in Civil War) Edward (fought in Civil War) Moses (fought in Civil War) (my great-grandfather) (married Amelia Amell/Hamel Sawyer in 1867) (lived 1838 - 1935) (had 11 children, including my grandfather, Clifford Albert Bombard I, and a nun) Ellen (married a man named Ashley; 19 children) Frank Peter Robert Timothy (1859-1867) Joseph (1854-1868) Louis (married Margaret Sawyer) My mother is the youngest of Clifford Albert Bombard I's children. Her name is Joan Elizabeth Bombard Charbonneau, and I am her oldest daughter, Joan Elizabeth Charbonneau Clark Mustard. I have 3 sisters, no brothers. The Bombards are scattered everywhere, but mainly on the East Coast. My mother has 3 sisters, 2 of whom are now deceased, and 2 brothers, who are still alive. All the remaining siblings live in Florida, but the 2 deceased sisters lived in Connecticut, which is where I was reared. My mother is 64 years old and I am 45. I have 4 male first cousins who carry on the Bombard name. I have a 4-year old granddaughter, who may be the youngest generation; her mother, my only child, is an Army wife, and they live in Clatskanie, Oregon. I live in South Carolina. Now many questions for you. Where do you live? Where are the "Bumbards" and any Bombards you can find, buried? Can you send photos of the graves? I have photos of Charles' grave, taken last Labor Day in the churchyard in Keeseville. Do you have dates of birth-marriage-death? Did your grandmother ever visit with any family from "up North?" I also have a photo of the house in Keeseville. One of the Bombards was a stonecutter who did the work on the Vermont Capitol building in Montpelier. I think his family monument is in the same cemetery as Charles' et al.

22Feb1998 Telephone conversation with Emma Corine Bombard Welborn. Her Grandfather (Charles Edward Bombard) is buried in a cemetery that was called "Old Town," near Sodas, LA. Sodas was one mile from "Old Town." All this is near Old Pleasant Hill. The Railroad came through and the town (virtually) moved (presumably closer to the RR). According to Emma Corine, "He owned a whole section of land there." Her father (Charles Bombard) was 10 years old when his father (Charles Edward Bombard) died. Emma Corine said that her Grandfather dealt (sold) horses, in Old Pleasant Hill. [MLWelborn]

She was thrilled to hear about the Louisiana Bombards - Edward was already in bed. She told me his name is actually Thomas Edward Bombard, and that the 3 names: Thomas, Edward, and Charles keep reappearing in the family line. I am going to mail you the family line (excluding what you just sent me). You will see 3 iterations: one long listing from Jean Bombardier (the earliest known use of the name), plus a little bit from Andre Demers and from Jean Eloy, so you can see the origins of our "Fille du Roi" connection. Gladys and Eddie have one son (Thomas Edward Jr.) and 2 daughters. Gladys says 2 brothers went to Louisiana and stayed there - so now that we have found Charles Edward, we have to figure out what happened to the other, who most likely was named Thomas. We know that my gf (Moses) returned to NY after his Union Army duty in Louisiana. And I guess we have to touch bases in Texas, too! It's amazing how paths cross - my daughter and son-in-law lived in San Antonio for 4 years and my granddaughter was born there in 1994. Small world! 980301 Telephone conversation with Emma Corine Bombard Welborn. I queried about her grandfather, Charles Edward Bombard. She reports that he died from TB, or consumption. Emma Corine does not remember a brother staying in the South along with her grandfather. She does recall that a brother returned North. Emma's grandmother, spouse of C.E.Bombard, Olivia Annie Davis Bombard had a brother named Jimmy Davis. Emma has his bible, which is over 100 years old, in her possession. I asked her to go through it and look for names and dates.
