Rev Thomas Butler Lanier, Sr was born on December 9, 1792 in Georgia, United States. His parents were Maj. Lewis Lafayette Lanier and Ann Eliza Lanier (Butler).

He died on November 3, 1870 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, United States and was buried after November 3, 1870 in Oakland Cemetery.
