About Thomas Larard
Thomas Larard (1776-1861), who moved to Hull in 1812, married into a wealthy local family, became the pillar of the local community, a freemason, Councillor, and even stood for Parliament. Thomas maintained a second family in Jackson Street, during his wife’s lifetime, and Frederick was the youngest of this family, born in his fathers 60th year. When Thomas died in 1861, his watch making and jewellery business was left to the eldest son, and the other sons were left £100 each. Their mother was left a similar sum. Frederick was 14 years old, and was apprenticed as a watchmaker and jeweller to a rival firm to that of his half brother.
