GEDCOM Note

THOMAS LLOYD (Henry Jr., Henry Sr., David) THOMAS LLOYD b. 1788 in Huntingdon Co., Pa. Died Oct. 30, 1837 at Shirleysburg. Pa. (d) The "Canal & Portage Register" reported (r) "There died on Mon. last. at Shirleysburg, THOMAS LLOYD, Esq., Sheriff of Huntingdon Co." Never did it become our duty to record a more lamentable demise than the above. He was at Shirleysburg on business and was taken suddenly ill with bilious cholic of which he died."(r) Married Jan. 12, 1813 CATHARINE MOORE. CATHARINE b. Feb. 11. 1790. d. Feb. 25, 1833, age 43. Buried in Presbyterian cemetery in Sinding Valley, Blair Co., Pa.(n) Parents - WILIIAM MOORE and ANN ______ of Woodstock Valley. Mr. GEORGE ROBB in 1943 told Mr. KAUFMANN that William's wife was Ann. Will Book says William was deceased by Dec. 2, 1827 and Africa says he "died at a very advanced age." (e) "Thomas Lloyd of McConnelstown, married a daughter of William Moore and there passed his life. He was reared a farmer, became well known as a contractor, manager and hotel keeper, and at the time of his death in October 1837 was Sheriff of Huntingdon Co. (b). Thomas Lloyd father of HENRY LLOYD, the financier.......of Pittsburg, Pa.(DWK) held many offices of trust.... in Huntingdon Co., Sheriff of the county for many years," (d) There has been some confusion about two NANCY Lloyds. The uncle of the Sheriff was also Thomas, the son of HENRY Sr.. And he married a daughter of William Moore, AGNES, according to her father's will, but she seems to have been known as Nancy also. In 1970 this writer (RJM) visited the library of Mr. Floyd Hoenstine, a genealogist of Hollidaysburg, Pa. who said that the names Agnes and Nancy were interchangeable, which explains the older couple. Evidently though, after CATHARINE died in 1833, Thomas the Sheriff married a Nancy too. She survived him since there is a renunciation dated Nov. 2, 1837. "I hereby renounce my right to administrate on the estate of my late husband, Thomas Lloyd deceased...... signed Nancy Lloyd" We know that the elder Thomas survived the Sheriff by several years.(RJM) There is a deed recorded, signed by Thomas & wife Nancy (May 24, 1836)(f) We cannot tell which Thomas & Nancy this deed pertained to since all four were living at that time. "WILLIAM CALDWELL and JAMES STEED Esq. administrators of Thomas Lloyd Esq. deceased, bond in $8000.00 filed John McCahan, William Ward. And ELEAZER LLOYD Sureties......... letters of administration granted......2nd day of Nov. 1837." (o) ISSUE WILLIAM LLOYD b. 18l5(g) Died 1888 (h) m. JANE LOWRY. THOMAS Jr. Nothing more is known of this Thomas, but a Thomas Lloyd was discharged on a surgical certificate, Nov. 10, 1862.(i) HENRY LLOYD b. Dec. 25, 1817. d. 1879(h) m. JANE McKINNEY. JOHN LLOYD b. Missionary to China, d. at Hong Kong. (d) JOHN LLOYD "who became a missionary of China and died at Hong Kong. John took an active part in the cause of religion from his earliest years and remained closely identified with religious works throughout his life. While acting in the capacity of a missionary to China to convert the heathen there, he was taken ill and died at Hong Kong." (d) MARTHA LLOYD b. 1818 (g) m. WILLIAM CALDWELL. (m) JANE LLOYD b. 1819 (k) m. HENRY J. SWOOPE. ALEXANDER M. LLOYD,b. Dec. 29, 1823, Huntingdon Co., Pa. (b) Married MARY BARR. The above list of children is given in Africa's History of Huntingdon Co. Jordan's Encyclopedia of Pa. Biography agrees except that Jordan does not include William. The following list of children is taken from some Vital Statistics in the Hoenstine Library in Hollidaysburg, Pa. JAMES M. LLOYD b. 1827. d. Feb. 24, 1833. ELIZABETH LLOYD. (Married JULIUS B.
