Biography

Thomas Look Jr., son of Thomas Look and Sarah Miller was born June 1646. [1]
Nantucket Founders and Descendants Thomas Look Jr. descends from Thomas Look, a Nantucket founder. He removed to Nantucket about 1670 and took up his father's share as a settler. There he married Elizabeth Bunker, and four of his six known children are recorded as born there. In 1677, Richard Swain sold Thomas his house and lot to take care of him. Thomas never held any town office in Nantucket. About 1681 he sold all of his lands on Nantucket.[2]

The date of his removal to Tisbury may be placed about 1685-6, as he made the first purchase of land in town on Feb. 15, 1686, acquiring of Joseph Merry the valuable water and mill privilege on the Tiasquin which his descendants improved for over a century. [3] Here he spent the rest of his days, following the occupation of a miller until his death. He was a selectman in 1688 and 1695, surveyor of highways in 1689, and deputy sheriff of the county in 1699, besides the usual services as juror. He was one of four dissenters against extending a call to Rev. Josiah Torrey as minister, but the reasons for this are not known.[4]

He married Elizabeth Bunker on 11 April 1669 in Nantucket, Massachusetts.[5]

His will was dated 4 Dec1725 and probated January 1726, [6] and was buried on Nantucket Island.

Notes

There are two references to a Thomas Look born in 1646 to Thomas Look in Massachusetts. One references Salem, Essex, Massachusetts[7], and the other references Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts. The second reference also references Sarah Miller as the mother and is probably the more reliable for this Thomas Look. This discrepancy needs to be clarified.
