He married (2) Martha Sherwood Abt 30 Apr 1685 at Sittingbourne Parish in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of Philip Sherwood and Martha Pendleton, born 1662 in Sittenburne Parish, Old Rapppahannock, Virginia, and died July 04, 1749 in Culpepper, Virginia. Martha, Thomas Marshall’s widow, married Alexander Thompson before 25 Jul 1705 in Richmond County, Virginia. He was born abt 1662 and died after 1719.

There are conflicting sources for Thomas's place of birth from Northampton County, to Culpeper County to Isle of Wight. It is documented that his father settled at Isle of Wight, so that is most likely the correct place.

In the Name of God Amen. I, Thomas Marshall of the County of Westmoreland of Washington Parish, carpenter being very weak but of perfect memory thanks be to God for it doth ordain this as my last will and testament in the manner and form following:

  • First: I give and bequeath my soul unto the hand of my blessed creator & redeemer hoping through merit of my blessed Savior to receive full pardon and remission of all my sins and my body to the Earth to be decently buryed according to the discretion of my Executrix which hereafter shall be named. I make and ordain my well beloved wife Martha Marshall to be my full and whole Executrix.
  • Item: I will that my estate shall remain in the hands of my wife as long as she remains single but in case she marrys then she is to have her lawful part and the rest to be taken out of her hands equally to be divided among my children.
  • Item: I will that if my wife marrys that David Brown Sen. and Jno. Brown to be guardians over my children and to take the estate in their hands bringing it to appraisement giving good security to what is valued and to pay my children their due as they shall come to age.
  • Item: I will that Elizabeth Rosier is to have a heifer delivered by my wife called white-belly to be delivered as soon as I am deceased.
  • Item: I will that my son William Marshall shall have my plantation as soon as he comes to age to him and his heirs forever, but in case that my son William dies before he comes of age and to die without issue then my plantation is to fall to the next heir apparent at law.

John Wright of Westmoreland County well knowing that a certain tract of land lying in or near Appamattox Creek was formerly sold by my father Francis Wright to Thomas Marshall, his heirs &c; as by the said Francis Wright's deed to the said Marshall may more fully appear, the said land containing 200 acres, but my late mother, the wife of said Francis Wright, not acknowledging acting and doing as on her part ought to have been done by means whereof the said Thomas Marshall in his right and title to the said land hath not secured and confirmed as he ought to have been, the said Marshall dying before such security was made. Now Know Ye that I, John Wright do release to the said Marshall's heirs &c; of and from all and all manner of right , title or interest which I may have and my heirs &c may have to the said virtue of my

John Wright, Gentleman, Acknowledged a certain writing under his hand importing a discharge and disclaimer of right to a certain parcel of land formerly sold by Francis Wright to Thomas Marshall and his heirs and to be his deed. 28 May 1707. William Marshall, planter, of King and Queen County and Elizabeth his wife, conveyed to his brother John Marshall the 200 acre plantation in Washington Parish, Westmoreland County, which had been bequeathed to the grantor by the will of their father, Thomas Marshall, dec'd, and acknowledged in court by John Wright on 28 May 1707 to the said Thomas Marshall and his heirs. Probate: 31 MAY 1704 Westmoreland County, Virginia


Will Probated in 1704 , named his oldest son ,to share equal after dau. Elizabeth Rossier has an extra slave among the children of Thomas and Wife Martha . Executor was William Marshall His son.
