Dr Calton died unexpectedly on the 8th July while the party was encamped at Algoa Bay awaiting transport to it's location. Thomas Draper succeeded him as leader of the party. The party was located on the Torrens River, and the location was named Clumber after the seat of the Duke of Newcastle. Thomas Nelson was accompanied by his wife Mary and their children at the time, William aged 3 and Matilda aged 1. Source - The settlers handbook by MD Nash. Additional Info: As Nottingham/Nottinghamshire was one of the areas worst hit by the Industrial Revolution most if not all of these settlers were frameknit workers so had little chance of becoming successful farmers.
