Thomas Parsons, 2nd, of Great Milton

From Meet the Planters – Parsons The following information is taken from Dr. Roy’s Book.

The first Thomas Parsons of which we know was Great Milton, Oxfordshire, England. He married Catharine Sydenham and had Thomas, Hugh and Richard.

The latter Thomas married Judith Garbrand of Oxford and their only child was Thomas, who was knighted by Charles I in 1634. He was also of Great Milton but married Catharine Radcliff of London.

Thomas Parsons, of Gt. Milton, Devonshire, married Catherine Sydenham, by whom he had sons, Thomas 2nd, Hugh and Richard.

Hugh m. a Pierpont, and had a son John of London. "Some of this family were among the early emigrants to America."

Thomas 2nd, was the father of Sir Thomas Parsons Knt. who married 1614, Lady Catherine Ratcliffe of ancient lineage. (See New Eng. Hist. and Gen. Register.)

From British History online (Great Milton):

"Another family, the Parsons, was typical of the class of small men who were successful in rising in the social scale in the 16th century. Thomas Parsons rented land worth 12s. 4d. a year in 1499; his descendant Thomas Parsons paid on goods worth £25 in 1577, one of the highest assessments in the parish, and by 1665 Robert Parsons was living in the largest house there, except for the Dormers' house at Ascot. (fn. 403)"
