About Thomas Phillips
When he was about 10 years old, the family moved to Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont. While there, he joined the Vermont State Militia at Bennington. He enlisted in the revolutionary forces in April 1781 and for a time served at Castlefort. In the latter part of the summer he joined the forces of Ethan Allen ( famous in history as “General Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys)
Thomas Phillips states in his application for a pension that while he was fired upon by British scouts, he had no major engagement with the enemy.
Where, when, and to whom he was first married in unknown. His affiadvit for pension states that he moved Pownal to Argyle, Washington County, New York in 1784, lived there for about 10 years at which time he moved to Frankfort, Herkimer County, New York., and then to Brookfield, Madison County, New York.
He lived there for 21 years before moving to Villenova, Chuatauqua County, New York.
He married a second wife , Sally Clark at Edmeston, Ostego County, New York on Jan 2, 1835.
