About Thomas Reynolds
Thomas Reynolds was born on March 16, 1733 in North Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island. His parents were Samuel Reynolds and Ann Gardiner. He was married to Elizabeth Hopkins on September 22, 1749 in Rhode Island. Their first four children were born in Rhode Island, the next two, in Connecticut, so they must have moved to Connecticut between 1758 and 1764. Judging from the fifteen year gap between the births of the twins Elizabeth and Elijah, and the birth of Thomas’ next child, Jeremiah, it would seem that Elizabeth probably died between 1764 and 1779, in Connecticut.
Thomas then must have married a younger woman and moved back to Rhode Island. This woman, whose name is unknown, was the mother of Thomas’ last two children. Another factor pointing to the probability of another wife is the fact that Elizabeth would have been over fifty years old at the birth of Jeremiah, and 55 at the birth of Olive. The location and date of Thomas’ death are unknown at this time, but apparently Thomas moved once more, to Washington County, New York, where many of his children settled and where he must have died.
