About Thomas Saint Leger
Archdeacon of Kells c1275. An Anglo Norman his election as Bishop of Meath was strongly opposed by other Irish Bishops he therefore visited Rome 1282 whilst he was absent the Arch- Bishop of Armagh excommunicated him and appointed another. A further visit to Rome in 1284 and support from othr Bishops followed. A Papal Bull was addresse to King Edward I by Pope Honore IV in support of Thomas and he was consecrate on the 3 Nov 1287 in the Cathedral of Ossory at Kilkenny. He was active in raising money for the Crusades.
