About Tobias Biallosterski

Tobias Biallosterski was married. He was a diamond merchant. He was active in the resistance by helping Jews and in the illegal press, particularly for Het Parool. On 8 October 1943, he left as England traveller. In England, he was trained up to be a secret agent. He was dropped by parachute twice. The first time near Etten (under the codename 'Draughts I'). His task was to transmit a message from Queen Wilhelmina to the illegal press and to coordinate the Interior Forces as an intermediary. Furthermore, he was to establish a radio connection between the resistance and London. When his transmitter got lost, he returned to England via France and Spain.

On 9 September 1944, he was dropped by parachute a second time (under the code name 'Mandrill'). He organised weapon drops for the Interior Forces. During an inspection of the drop zone, he was arrested on 9 February 1945 by the Grüne Polizei and the Landwacht near Wognum and detained in the Obdam Remand centre. He was shot while trying to escape. He was transferred to Scheveningen prison where he died on 25 February 1945. NIOD, Erelijst Verzet en Koopvaardij, database made by J.W. de Leeuw; B.
