About Tomas Požeckis h Dąbrowa

Student, Professor, Provincial Regent of the Jesuits in 1648 at Vilnius University. Student of Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski c 1630s.

His name was also written with the Talko nickname as Tomasz Talko Porzecki. His surname was sometimes incorrectly written as Pogrzecki. (It is written it was incorrectly copied and repeated.)

Origin of Talko-Porzecki

Born in Lyda in 1609, Dr. Požẽckis was a famous academic at Vilnius University. The name of Požẽckis or Porzecki-Purzecki is from Talko-Porzecki, the Mazovian family that used the Dąbrowa coat of arms. Some families retained the Talko nickname as a hyphenated double name, but most did not. It was also one of three branches of the Talko family (Talko-Hryncewicz, Talko-Nekraszewicz) that is written to come from the ancient boyars of Slonim in the 15th century. No concrete origin of this family has been determined. (Additional information: The document of family history written by the Talko-Hryncewicz family of Lithuania is not deemed credible by Polish historians and family historian, Jim Purisky. The original settlement was called Pórzyce (Porzecze), today: Purzyce, and was first recorded in 1405, according to the Grudusk archives in Poland. This theoretically pre-dates the recording of the Talko family in Slonim.)

It is written in Polish heraldry that members of this clan moved from Mazovia to the Lida region, among others, in what was then the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. No exact date was given. Based on extensive research of this family, it is likely the many members from this Mazovian family moved to the regions of today's Belarus around 1550-1600.

Talko-Porzecki (also Purzecki) is the elder branch of the Kaunas Purzycki h Pomian family whose nobility was affirmed by the Russian Empire in 1799. This Kaunas family was the last in heraldry to be recorded with the original Porzecki and Purzecki family names in addition to the more modern name of Purzycki.
