About Tribe White Croats

Tribe White Croats

The White Croats (Croatian: Bijeli Hrvati; Polish: Biali Chorwaci; Czech: Bílí Chorvati; Ukrainian: Білі хорвати, romanized: Bili khorvaty), also known simply as Croats, were a group of Early Slavic tribes that lived between East Slavic and West Slavic tribes in the historical region of Galicia north of the Carpathian Mountains (in modern Western Ukraine and Southeastern-Southern Poland), and possibly in Northeastern Bohemia.

(En) The White Croats were an East Slavic tribe; partly ancestors of Croats on the Adriatic Sea. White Croats are probably partly also the ancestors of Slovaks, Czechs and Poles, or at least they played a major role in the consolidation of the Slovak, Czech, Polish and Ukrainian peoples during the 10th and 11th centuries. Traces of the White Croats can be found in Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. Slovakia, the Czech Republic, southern Poland, Ukraine and partly in northern Romania. It is assumed that the numerous Belarusian people were scattered among the mentioned nations due to the invasion of the Hungarians in the 9th century and then the Mongols in the 13th century. White Croats also played a huge role in the formation of the medieval Hungarian state.

Apart from the medieval Polish city of Kraków, the particularly important centers of the White Croats were the cities of Peremišl and Galič, which were part of the Kievan Rus under the control of the Kievan Rus. The rulers of Kiev had a permanent relationship with the White Croats, and it is assumed that they were the first East Slavic tribe to accept Christianity, which they then spread in Kiev through the Kiev princess Olga, who officially converted to Christianity in 955.

White Croats and Black Croats / Bijeli Hrvati i Crni Hrvati

(En) The White Croats (Tribe White Croats) from the Carpathians became part of the Ante-Slavic tribal alliance around the year 500. 518. Byzantine writers record the Ante incursions into the territory across the Danube.

Some of the famous rulers of that tribal confederation between 550 and 600 are Dobrogost, Udarist, Mesimir, Čelogost, Mužok, Radogost and Pirogost. 560 – 602. The Avars gradually attack and destroy the Alliance.

A part of the White Croats from the Carpathians moved to southern Poland around Krakow and to the Czech Republic around Libica, where they survived until the 10th century. Part of the Croats remains in Galicia, in western Ukraine and Slovakia, and they also survive until the 10th century - they are also known as Black Croats (Volochnians).

(Cro / Hr) Bijeli Hrvati (Tribe White Croats) sa Karpata postaju dio Antsko-Slavenskog plemenskog saveza oko 500. godine. 518.

560. – 602. Avari postupno napadaju i uništavaju Savez.

In, around or between (560 – 602) a parts of the the tribe White Croats tribe were moved (migrated) in four directions (ways), when the Avars destroyed the Alliance:

  • White Croats in southern Poland around Kraków
  • White Croats in Czech in South Bohemian Region around Libic (today Libníč
  • White Croats in Western part of Slovakia (survived until the 10th century) (Also known as Black Croats (Volohnjani=Volohnians)
  • White Croats in Western part of Ukraine in Galicia and around Kiev (Kyiv) (survived until the 10th century) (Also known as Black Croats (Volohnjani=Volohnians)

In the same time period the slavic tribe Lędzianie, Lz'njn or Lachy (see), was mentioned practically in the same area as the White Croats (Tribe White Croats).
