About Trooper Peter Thompson, Medal of Honor
The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Peter Thompson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 25 June 1876, while serving with Company C, 7th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Little Big Horn, Montana. After having voluntarily brought water to the wounded, in which effort he was shot through the head, Private Thompson made two successful trips for the same purpose, notwithstanding remonstrances of his sergeant.
