Hama Relatives

By The Swedish Biographical Dictionary

Volume 18 (1969-1971), page 73

Hama (Ama), branch of the Folkunga family (vol. 16) descended from Earl Birger's cousin Folke earl (d. 1210). His grandson the knight Ulf Holmgersson (lived 1290) was first gm a sister to the Södermanland lagmannen Anund Haraldsson (Winged lily) and received in 1284 after her death papal exemption for marriage with a relative, a niece of Magnus ladulås. No later than 1288 he belonged to his council. Of his sons, Harald Ulfsson (d. Latest 1305) was kanik in Linköping and the knight Holmger Ulfsson , also called Holmger H or Holmger Ama (d. 1307 or 1308), was King Birger's chamberlain.

A third son Laurens Ulfsson(lived 1350) belonged to Duke Erik's followers in 1310 and became a knight around 1313. From 1318 he was in the Duchies Ingeborg's council, and no later than 1319 he became a lawyer in Södermanland after King Birger's followers Stefan Röriksson (2 sparrows). At least from 1322 he belonged to King Magnus Eriksson's council. During his time as lawyer, a revision of the Södermann Act was approved in 1327. His manor was probably Ärnäs in Kärnbo (Söd), but he chose a burial ground in Alvastra monastery. The family carried in the weapon a shield cut from stone gables. It seems to have become extinct on the male side with Laurens Ulfsson's son Holmger Ama or Holmger H (lived 1359) on Ärnäs. -

Volume 22 (1977-1979), page 515

Lion bar, conventionally modern family name (first used in Laws of Judgment) for the descendants of non-family names on the mans side to the lawman of Tiohärad Karl Ingeborgsson (d earliest in 1266), who in his seal carried the split shield with a lion in the heraldic right field o with the left field cut six times, so that it can be perceived as three beams. His wife was possibly the daughter of a half-sister on Birger Earl's ancestry, which should be compiled with the fact that his weapon may have been formed on the folk kid weapon. He was succeeded most recently in 1273 as a layman by his son the knight Folke Karlsson (d 1285 or 1286).

From about 1300 the same office was held by another son, the knight Magnus Karlsson(d at the earliest in 1316), which departed between 1304 and 1313, that is, several years before his death, probably as a result of Tiohärad's legal case at the 1310 national division fell to King Birger. He can be besieged among Duke Eric's men already at his siege of Sthlm's castle 1306, was among his pledges in connection 1310 concerning morning gift and life gift to his intended communion Sofia by Werle in the treaty of Helsingborg 1313 and so mentioned among the dukes' councils. Magnus Karlsson's first wife was the daughter of Birger Jarl's half-brother in the mother. In younger years he carried in the seal the weapon with a wing which was then taken by his sister's husband the knight Ragvald Puke and his descendants, but from about 1305 he had the same weapon as his father. His son Ragvald Magnusson(d earliest in 1322) occurs earliest among the great men, who in 1319 ratified the downturn between King Birger and his opponents, and was named governor in four letters from the years 1320 to 22.

Another son was Holmger Magnusson (d earliest in 1341), who in 1312 was about to travel to the Holy Land and by 1337 became a knight. He was the father of the Western Åskanik and kh in Hultsjö, Jönk, Magnus Holmgersson (d at the earliest 1358), who at the beginning of the seal carried four-piece shield, probably his mother's weapon, but towards the end of his life, like the grandfather, the father's weapon resumed. His brother Ulf Holmgersson(d about 1396) became a knight one of the years 1358–65 o sealed a letter in Västerås in connection with the negotiations there between the men of the peoples and king Albrekts in June 1365. In his Småland hometown he has not been able to occupy later than 1366. Next time Ulf Holmgersson shows up in the letter material is 1369 and 1370, when he appears at Akershus and Bohus among King Håkan's foremost men, and among these he is also mentioned in the standstill treaty with King Albrekts supporters at Edsviken in Sollentuna, Sth, 1371. In 1375 he sealed a letter in Tönsberg in Norway, o 1379 he is named among Håkan's councils and men. In 1386 Ulf Holmgersson exchanged land in Västergötland for land in Norway, and in 1388 he was one of the foremost among the Norwegian great men who in Oslo elected Håkan's widow Queen Margareta to Norway's mistress. The last times he appears are 1395, when he was among her many pledges from the three Nordic kingdoms in the Lindholmen Treaty on King Albrekts release, etc. a few months later in Helsingborg, the letter dated her agreement with the Hanseates of Sthlm, Ulf Holmgersson was buried in Ids church in southeastern Norway. That he did not return to Sweden after Margaret's victory should probably have explained that he married a daughter of King Magnus Eriksson's cousin, Norwegian great man Jon Hafthorsson (Roos).
