Ulrich (81), a German landscape architect who came to South Africa with his wife 22 years ago, was shot dead on Friday evening, 17th April 2005, in front of his neighbours on his smallholding in Nooitgedacht near Muldersdrift.

- The rural Muldersdrift area experienced a marked increase in violent attacks and murders during 2005. "Police are stepping up patrols in the area," said superintendent Milicia Bezuidenhout.
- February 23: Coenie Pretorius (36), appears after a church service in front of his wife and two children on their Millgate smallholding shot dead. Pretorius' brother Jurie, his parents and a girlfriend were then already detained in the house. Seven men are arrested by the police.
- February 28: Andrew Wilkes (32), is shot dead in front of his house in Nooitgedacht after he, his wife and two children came home that evening. She is tied up with an electric cord, but the attackers don't steal anything
