Uriah owned a small plantation adjoining his father-in-law, Dr. Joseph F. Dobson, in Burke Co. NC. It was a few miles west of Morganton.
Uriah marched with the "Over the Mountain" Men of Watauga Settlement in Washington Co. TN. He marched with his brother-in-law, General John Sevier, to Kings Mountian, NC where they fought in that famous battle.
Around 1814, he purchased a large acreage along Soco Creek. In the 1820's he entered land in the area of Macon Co. NC (which is now Swain Co.) and lived there until his death in 1838.
