Proof: Pennsylvania German Pioneers, by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, LLD., Vol. 1, 1727-1775, Second Printing, 1975, p. 307 He emigrated on 12 Oct 1741 from Thaleschweler, Germany. He arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Rotterdam, on the ship "Friendship", Alex Thomas, Master (Penn. Archives). He signed Oath of Allegiance to Crown 12 Oct 1741, Signature recorded (Penn. Pioneers, Strasburger). Tradition has it that they settled near Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. Proof : Ghlee Howerter Research - Howerter Family History, 19 Dec 1970., p.2.

He was of one of Palatines imported in the ship "Friendship", Alex. Thomas, Master, from Rotterdam, Last from Cowes. Proof: Pa.. 148,149, A Collection of Upwards of Thirty Thousand Names of German, Swiss, Dutch and French, and Other Immigrants in Penn. From 1727 to 1776, by Prof. I. Daniel Rupp, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing co., 1965.

Governor, Samuel Hasell and Abraham Taylor, Esq. The Palatines whose names are underwritten, imported in the Ship Friendship, Alex(r) Thomson, Master From Rotterdam, but last of Cowes, did this day take the Oaths to the Government, Viz. Valetin Hochwarter, whose name in one list was changed into Hohwerter and in another one into Huberter, was married at Thaleischweiler in 1735 and reported in the register as "having gone to Pennsylvania." Proof: Genealogies of Pennsylvania Families, Vol. II, Hinman-Sotcher p.35 He died on 25 Jul 1748 in Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. The Death and burial place is not known, but presumed to be Montgomery County.

His death was recorded in the New Hanover Lutheran Church records. New Hanover, PA. Valetin resided in Heimestelle Pfalz Kaiserlautern Germany altho it has not been documented, the records, his marriage and taufsheins, (baptismal records) of their children were all included in the archives of the Lutheran church at Speyer Germany. These records state that he was the local baker and his wife was the daughter of Lorentz Huttenmeyer, the high Count of Neuenstein in the Hohenlohischen district. Valetin and his wife lived in this area is supported by the fact that numerous passengers on the ship to America were from this same area. His name was listed as Valentin Hochwarter in one reference and also as Valentin Huberter in another. Their come to America with three children.

He was married to Anna Christine HUTTENMEYER (daughter of Lorentz HUTTENMEYER and Unknown) on 18 Oct 1736 in Thaleschweler, Germany, Lutheran Church Record. Anna Christine HUTTENMEYER was born about 1716 in Germany. She died in Pennsylvania. The death and burial place is not known, but presumed to be Montgomery County, Pa. A copy of the Penn. German Church Records, Gen. Pub. Co., 1983, Vol. 1, Montgomery Co., Pa., Trappe, Augustus, Evangelical Lutheran Church, pages. 352, 353, 355, 360, shows the name as Anna Christina. After arriving in America Valentin and Anna Christana continued to increase their family. The first Howerter child to be born in America was undoubtedly Adam. A- Valetin HOHWERDER and Anna Christine HUTTENMEYER had the following children:

He served in the military in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. (1) Master roll of 2nd class 3d Battle Lancaster Co. Mil's on a tour of duty at Lancaster for the purpose of guard of British poisoners. The person who served their tour was private Valentine Hovarter. Lancaster Co. 21 Aug 1781.
