About Johann Valentine Mauney
Valentine and his two brothers Christian and Jacob settled in Tryon County, NC that was later called Lincoln County, NC in about 1760. He acqured 370 acres of land on November 23, 1770 for 5 shillings sterling money. Performed various civic services. He was a member of Capt. Carpenter's Company, Military Committee of Tryon, a member of the Committee of Public Safety for the county, a signer of "An Association" of freeholders of the county who united themselves to firmly resist the force British aggressions in defense of their Natural Freedom and Constitutional Rights (1775)

He had 370 acres on land on the Indian Creek, just to northwest of Crouse.Valentine, like his brothers became very active in civic affairs and is mentioned many times in court records and other public records. He was a member of the Tryon Resolve, a group of local people united to firmly resist British aggression. Land Grant- November 3, 1762.- Secured a grant of land on Indian Creek </p>
