Vernetta “Eddie” A. Lampe, 89, of Ames, Iowa formerly of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Good Samaritan on Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013. She was born on May 11, 1924 at rural DeWitt, Nebraska, was baptized on May 18, 1924 and later confirmed on May 16, 1937. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church School west of Beatrice. She became a licensed beautician and had worked at several places including Pat’s Beauty Shop. She then owned and operated “Eddie’s Beauty Shop” for over 20 years, retiring 1987. She married Charles Krueger on December 11, 1946 and they later divorced. She married Carl J. Lampe on January 25, 1987. She was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church west of Beatrice and the First Christian Church of Beatrice. She was currently a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and has been a member for 32 years, since 1978. After the death of her husband, Carl, she sold her home and moved to Homestead Village in 2005. She had lived in Ames, Iowa for the last several months. She enjoyed flowers and had twice received the “Yard of the Month” award from the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce. She collected ceramic birds and plates and enjoyed playing cards and golf. Survivors include two step-sons, Curt Lampe and his wife Carol of North Platte, Nebraska and Clayton Lampe and his wife Stephanie of Gretna, Nebraska; two step-daughters, Carla Wickard and her husband Randy of Lincoln and Vickie Lampe of Beatrice; nine step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Diane Ruyle and husband Don of Ames, Iowa and Lisa Hunt and husband Rodney of Filley; two nephews, Lynn Haarberg and wife Darlene of Waunita and Kent Haarberg and wife Elaine of rural western Nebraska; many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Tillie Parde Buss; her husband Carl, who died on July 13, 2005; one son, Michael Krueger who died in 1957; three brothers Paul, Reinhart and John Buss; five sisters Esther Haarberg, Lydia Clifford, Pauline Rice, Laverna Woodhead and Fern Young; one step-son, Chris Lampe. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor William Shaner and Sharon Schuster, PMA officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 12:45 P.M. on Saturday at the church. The body has been cremated and there will be no viewing. A register book will be available at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday. Burial of the cremains will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice.
