Victor (65), was shot in the chest when four armed males attacked the family, whilst having a braai (barbeque) in Amandasig, Pretoria, Gauteng, on 16th May 2008. He was left in the lapa to bleed out, while the perpetrators held the family hostage.

Danel, Daleen, Daleen's parents, Doreen (56), and Pieter Jordaan (53), Daleen's brother, Louis Jordaan (53), and his wife, Ankia, and the couple's children Lee-Anne (8), and Gruger (2) were all assaulted - hitting them with guns and kicking them for over three hours. The attackers kept shouting, "We're going to kill you; we're going to kill you."
