About Virginia Thelma Battelstein

Virginia Battlestein Segall Obituary Virginia Livingston Battelstein Segall 1916-2015 On the 27th of September 2015, surrounded by her loving family, Virginia Livingston Battelstein Segall went to be with the Lord after enjoying 99 years of good health and a long, productive life. Virginia broke the glass ceiling with her commitment to organizations that are dear to our community. Her energies were dedicated to her many years of service as the President of Seven Acres, the President of the Council of Jewish Women, the President of the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Israel, the Vice-Chair of the Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Secretary of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston. She was also known for her matzo ball soup, chocolate chip cookies, chopped liver and being an ace mahjong and poker player. Virginia is survived by her son, Barry Battelstein and his wife, Linda; her daughter, Susan Battelstein, and her fiancée, Roddy Roy; her grandchildren, Nancy Bostic and her husband, Steve and their children Sophie and Isabelle; Philip Battelstein and his wife, Beatrice, and their son, Kevin; David Battelstein and his wife, Jessica, and their children Josiah, Jesse, Gracie, Gabriel, Abbey and Jonathan; her sister, Constance Simon and family; and step children, Cissy Segall and her husband, Marty, and Candy Thompson and her husband, Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ben Battelstein, her second husband of 11 years, Alex Segall, and her sister, Mildred Berman. She was the glue that held the family together for so many years. A memorial service celebrating our beloved Ginny will be held at four o'clock in the afternoon, on Thursday, the 1st of October, in the main auditorium of Seven Acres, 6200 N. Braeswood Blvd., where she devoted 60 years of heartfelt service. Immediately following the service all are invited to greet the family during a reception. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions in Virginia's memory may be directed to Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd., Houston 77096, to fund the purchase of textbooks for children in the Congregation's religious school. Alternatively, contributions may be made to Sevens Acres, 6200 N. Braeswood Blvd., 77074, in Virginia's memory. Published in Houston Chronicle on Sept. 29, 2015 - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?n=v...
