About Waitstill Avery
Waitstill married Sept. 18, 1729, at Groton, Deborah Williams, daughter of Richard and Sarah Williams. Deborah died March 15, 1729/30, at Groton. In his will, made June 29, 1733, Richard Williams mentioned wife, Sarah, and his son, Waitstill Avery (New London Wills, C:678). Waitstill Avery married 2d, Dec. 1730, Margaret Childs. Waitstill Avery, Joiner, deeded to his brother, Christopher, land that he inherited from his brother, Samuel, Sept. 10, 1729 (Groton Deeds, 2:438). In the record of the baptism of his daughter, Mary, he is called of the North Society. He died before Nov. 7, 1737, when the inventory of his estate was taken at New London. November 8, 1737, his widow gave bond, with Edward Herrick, for two hundred pounds for the proper administration of his estate (New London Wills, D:299). December 9, 1737, she married Edward Herrick; they lived in the part of Preston now called Griswold. They had a large family of children. Edward Herrick had previously married Mary Denison, daughter of William and Mary (Avery) Denison. The children of Waitstill and Margaret (Childs) Avery were born at Groton, New London Co., Conn.
