Walter S Branch

One item which is given in the history of Middleport, which could not escape the eye of the writer is the Western Union Telegram Co.,operated by Walter Branch. Mr. Branch was born in Pomeroy in 1852 and was made operator of the local Western Union branch in 1871 in which capacity he worked until just a few years ago. August 11, 1881 Athens Messenger Athens Ohio Meigs On Saturday the citizens of Middleport, irrespective of party, presented Mr. Walter Branch, manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company, at Middleport, with a beautiful gold-headed cane, as a tribute for his labors to the public in securing, from time to time the latest news of the President's condition.

In 1902 Walter married Addie Mumford.
