Walter Byers, 94, of Bloomfield, passed away at 12:36 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at his residence.
Born September 30, 1917 in Bloomfield, he was the son of William Martin and Della (Graham) Byers.
He retired in 1984 from NSWC Crane as a maintenance machinist after 41 years of service. He served his country with the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a member of the Mineral United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 71 years, Hilda Byers; one daughter Janet S. Byers of Bloomfield; two sons Maurice (Charman) Byers and Larry (Eldeania) Byers both of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Steve Eads officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove cemetery in rural Bloomfield. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 196 of Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to the Mineral United Methodist Church or Mineral Ladies Aid.
