Walter Newman came to East Jersey Province from Dublin, Ireland on or about the last of March 1683. He was by indenture of apprenticeship to Stephen Warne for seven years. The full term of the Apprenticeship was not required. Headland was granted to Walter Newman, late apprentice to Stephen Warne of Perth Amboy, carpenter, 2 July 1688 and 7 February 1689. Walter married Mary about 1687 in New Jersey.[1] (Mary was born after 1660 and was baptized on 9 Jul 1704 in Saint Mary's Parish, Burlington County, New Jersey.) Walter and family spent time in Jersey before moving into Pennsylvania. Names of his wife and first nine children appear in the parish of St. Mary's at Burlington, New Jersey. He moved to Cecil County, Maryland, between 1713 and 1716. He leased 280 acres of land in Bohemia Manor from Ephraim Augustus Herman, 26 November 1716. He renewed the lease, 15 November 1722. He later appears in land records in Pennsylvania. The birth records of the five youngest children appear in the records of St. Stephen's Parish. Elizabeth was born 2 January 1707/08. Katherine was born 28 August 1709. Jonathan was born 11 February 1713/14 and died sometime that year. Samuel was born 15 March 1713/14. Jonathan was born 5 August 1716. Walter made his will 20 November 1725 and left most of his estate to his two youngest sons. The will was probated 9 February 1729 which was probably February 1730 by the present calendar. The estate was settled 20 May 1734. Mary then married her neighbor, Thomas Moore. [1]
