Capt. Warner Dygert was the husband of Magdalina Lena Herkimer. He was near Fall Hill when killed and scalped by Tories and Indians in October, 1780. His son Severinus, who was only 14 years of age at the time was fully equipped as a volunteer soldier and had been doing guard duty with his father at Fort Bull, which was situated on Fall Hill. Warner kept a tavern near the fort and the Committee of Safety often held their meetings there. After the incident with Warner, Severinus was taken prisoner and forced to go with the enemy to Canada. Warner's older son Johan Jost , who was in command at Fort Plain, when hearing of his fathers death, hurried with his company of militia to his father's home, but arrived too late to rescue his brother from the enemy. Severinus was held in captivity for 1 year and 10 months and when released, Aug. 4, 1782 with a large number of other prisoners, returned home by way of Lake Champlain and Albany.
