About Wayne Edick Esmay

The body of Wayne Esmay, who died in a prisoner of war camp in Japan, will be returned to Douglas Sunday and funeral services will be conducted by Rev. A. C. Rostron in the Stark Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m. the same day.
Esmay was a civilian worker at Wake Island when that outpost was attacked by the Japanese. During the defense of Wake, he was wounded and died after transfer to a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Japan.
A member of the American Legion, he served with the U.S. Army during the Mexican border war and World War I.
Wayne Esmay came here with his family to Douglas in 1900 and resided here continually except for his service during the two wars.
He is survived by his father and two brothers, Gen. Rudolph Esmay of the Wyoming National Guard and Howard Esmay, president of Converse County Bank.
He was re-buried in the Douglas cemetery April 10, 1949.
