Wilbur "Shorty" Lloyd Johnson was born June 26, 1920 in Gus, Iowa, the son of Calvin Wesley Johnson and Sara Emma Holland Johnson. Shorty attended rural schools. On August 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Ridnour in Nodaway, Iowa. Shorty lived his entire life within a two-mile radius of where he was born. He and Betty enjoyed farm life, he always had a dog and pony, and the couple raised chickens, delivering eggs over much of southwest Iowa. But his pride and joy was working with his short horned cattle. Shorty had also worked at the Sale Barn and Co-op in Corning for many years. He enjoyed people and loved children, visiting with anyone and talking about anything. He always had candy, gum, and often times an apple, and he even had a knife to cut the apple for those who didn't have any teeth! Shorty was known to play a joke or tease people, from time to time, playing no favorites when he did it!
He is survived by his wife; a brother and wife; three sisters-in-law and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins. [Survivors names omitted.]
Preceding him in death are his parents, Calvin and Sara; four brothers, Floyd Johnson, Delbert Johnson, Albert Johnson and Francis Johnson, a sister at infancy and a sister-in-law, Leona Johnson.—Ritchie Funeral Home, Bedford, IA
