Wilhelm William WOLFSOHN WOLFFSOHN WOLFENSOHN: b. 20 Oct 1820, Odessa - d. 13 Aug 1865, Dresden
Wilhelm Wolfensohn born on 20 October 1820 in Odessa and died August 13, 1865 in Dresden, the son of an impoverished, Orthodox Jewish family of German origin. He was a journalist, dramatist, translator and poet, as well as a mediator of German- Russian relations literature.
He attended the Jewish high school in Odessa and began to study medicine in Leipzig in 1837, attending events in classical philosophy, philology and history.
His first published essays - Wolfensohn in the Allgemeine Zeitung of Judaism were written under the pseudonym Carl Maien/May. He was co-founder of the German Schiller Foundation in Dresden.

The son of poor Israelites, William later attended the German gymnasium of his native town, and then entered the University of Leipzig in order to study medicine, but soon turned to philosophical and philological studies and even was experimenting with translations of Latin poets, which he published under the pseudonym Carl May.
After completing his studies in Leipzig, Wilhelm initially worked as a writer, publishing the book "The beautiful scientific literature of the Russians" in 1843. He converted to Christianity in 1851 and convert to Christianity, married a Christian woman and had his children baptised.
