About Wilkerson Charles Weatherford
Wilkerson Weatherford, was born about 1726, in either New Kent County or Lunenburg County, Virginia, the son of William Weatherford, Jr. and Susanna (possibly Wilkerson). Wilkerson migrated to North Carolina. Wilkerson died in 1790, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
We believe it was in North Carolina that he met Susanna (last name unknown). At this time, we know almost nothing about Wilkerson. We do know that some of his descendants claim that both Wilkerson and Susanna were members of the Cherokee or Creek tribe.
Wilkerson and Susanna's children included
- (1) Hilkiah Weatherford, born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina;
- (2) Agnes Weatherford, born about 1740 - 1755, in North Carolina, married John Vann, then married _____ Burleson ;
- (3) Ursula Weatherford, born 1758, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, died 1835, in Rutherford County, Tennessee, married David F. Burleson;
- (4) William Weatherford, born 1759);
- (5) Mary Weatherford, born about 1760 - 1770; and
- (6) John S. Weatherford, born about 1764, in North Carolina, married Wealthy Ward.
Charles' land grant is noted first with a grant of 390 acres on the north side of Meherin River which adjoined John Bookers property on 12 Mar 1749. He then sold this land on 6 Nov 1753. he conveys to William Mucklehony both of Lunenburg Co., Va., for L30, 390 acres of land in Lunenburg Co., on the north side of ut....., to white oak in Bears Element Creek, down Branch as it meanders to the Creek, down Creek to the River, down River to first station, etc... In the presence of Christipher Johnson, John Weatherford and William McDow. Deed Bk. 3, pg. 414. Charles obtained many properties and many lawsuits regarding the lands he owned.
