The William Porter plantation in Mcminn Co., Tennessee consisting at one time of 2,000 Acres, remained in the Porter family until 1952 when it passed by will to " nieces and nephews of Willam A. Porter, a single man. These were people named Peters, and have not been Identified at the time of this writing. The house, build in about 1820 is still standing. It was constucted of brick layed three deep, making the walls 18 inches thick. There were twelvem rooms, eight downstairs and four on the second floor. Tere were eiht fire plces and two stair-cases. The ceilings were high, and a cellar was under most of the house. A southern type veranda, two storis high with large pillars graced the front of the mansion.
