Willemijntje van Dam was born in April 1799 in Gouderak, a river village near Gouda in the mideastern part of the Dutch southwestern province Zuid-Holland, daughter of Pieter van Dam and Geertruijda van Dam.

Willemijntje van Dam married on 13 September 1821 in Gouderak, at the age of 22 years to the two years older Willem Anker.
