Son and heir of Eudes la Zouche of Harringworth and Joan Inge, daughter of William, Chief Justice of the King's Bench. They married before 16 July 1334, and had four sons and two daughters: Sir William, 3rdLord Zouche Richard Sir Thomas Eudes, Canon of Lincoln, Chancellor of Cambridge Elizabeth, wife of Sir Basing Margery, wife of Robert Willoughby

Sir William served the Earl of Derby at the Siege of Calais in 1347, summoned to Parliament in his grandfather's lifetime as Willelmo la Zouche de Haryngworth juniori. Sir William accompanied King Edward III to France in 1359 and he was off to the Holy Land October of 1362. In 1373, he was sent to accompany the King of Navarre from Normandy to England. In 1376 he was co-heir to his cousin, William de Cantelowe by which he inherited the manors of Ilkeston, Derbyshire and Greasley, Nottinghamshire.

William left a will dated 14 March 1381, proved 24 April 1382. Elizabeth died 24 May 1382.
