" William Alexander was born in North Scotland around ? ;married Betsy King 1771, came to Randolph County N.C. with other members of his father's family in 1774. Their children were William, Stephen K., Thomas, Jane and George. Capt William Alexander was commissioned in 1781. Stephen was the ancestor of Mary Louise's branch we must assume that our branch descended from William or Thomas or George (born 7/5/1769) m- Jane Sharp, son of Capt. Wm Alexander.

Tenn archives notes: "b 7-30-1739 married Elizabeth King in1762 in PA, came to Salisbury District, N.C."

A record of Proceedings of a Board of Officers dated Feb 6, 1782, show him commissioned Caption Sept 8, 1781.

His name appears as Lieutenant on a Book of Settlements of money accounts of North Carolina, containing a debit and credit account with the person name above; the earliest entry in said account being dated 1782 and the latest August 1, 1783.

"This is to certify that William Alexander received pay for services in the Revolutionary war as per Record of Settlement of Army Accounts - Collection of the North Carolina Historical Commission as follows:
