William is listed in the Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Volume 2, page 51, as having two British prisoners quartered on him, and on page 128 as a signatory to the 'Oath of Allegiance Signed by Citizens of Albemarle County".
William is described in Reverend Edgar Woods' "History of Albemarle County" beginning on page 141.
