About Reverend William Baskett
A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA with the rank of LIEUTENANT. DAR Ancestor #: A00717
A short sketch of the family of Rev. William Baskett of Fluvanna County, Virginia, 929.273 M363V, Genealogy Society of the church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 63415
From the first page of the Baskett material sited above: " Rev. William Baskett, the dissenting minister of Fluvanna county Virginia.... (was) a brother of Thomas Baskett who married Mildred Martin, daughter of Valentine Martin and Jane Bridgewater. It is said that their father was Thomas Baskett. Sr. William Baskett is not connected with the Valentine Martin family but considerable unpublished information on his descendants has been given me and I feel it should be included in this work because of intermarriages between the Thomas and William Baskett families. Members of both families removed to Clark and surrounding Kentucky counties and later to Howard and Marion counties in Missouri and from there have removed to other sections of the state and elsewhere...."
"William Basket was pastor of Lyle's Church for twenty-one years. The union terminated with his death, April 30, 1815. His aged companion died only a few days previously, and their joint commemorative service on June 24th, following, drew together a vast concourse of sympathetic admirers and friends. Elder Basket was in opulent circumstances, and left a number of children, one of whom, Susanna, became the wife of Elder Warren Cash, of Kentucky, whom she greatly aided in his extensive usefulness."
