From Bill and Marlene Nolen:

William Berry Nolen was my Great Grandfather and his son was my grandfather Luther William Nolen who was born at Rock Springs, Wyoming during their trip by covered wagon from Arkansas. He died in 1919 in a boiler explosion in Oregon City, and his son, [Bill] William Luther Nolen Sr, was only 2 months old at that time and was my Father who passed away in 1984.. I am [Bill] William Luther Nolen Jr born in 1938 in Klamath Falls ,Oregon and I now live in Janesville, in Northeast California. My younger brother, Rich Allen Nolen in Venetta, Oregon has been working with some of the McLane's on our history. We visited Clearwater and the Nolen stage station in 1995 and 2000 for the McLane/Nolen reunions. Most of the Nolen's have died off but the McLane side has really increased in population. I would love to go back for another reunion but I have not been told of any coming up.

I am related to the Nolen family that owned this half way station in the early 1890's. William Berry Nolen and wife Martha Nolen and 5 children. I have a photocopy of an article that was written by Cliff McLean 7/14/1995 from Grangeville, Idaho. William and Martha (McDaniel) relocated to Idaho from Arkansas in February of 1890. They homesteaded a place next to his brother and sister in law Samuel and Margaret Jane Nolen McLean.

The property was located near Elk City and Clearwater Idaho. They had moved there with 5 kids and added 3 more (what a woman!). They eventually sold the ways tation and moved to Washington state.
