About William Herman Brooks, II

WALLINGFORD — William Herman Brooks II, 81, a longtime resident of Wallingford, died Saturday morning, April 18, 2009, at The Pines at Rutland, following a brief illness.

He was born on November 9, 1927, in Rupert, Vt., the son of William H. and Cora (Bourn) Brooks. Following his adoption by Oscar and Georgiana Palmer, he grew up in Wallingford.

Mr. Brooks married Rita Boyer on October 19, 1957.

He had been employed by True Temper, Fagan's Confectionary and then for many years by the General Electric Co., retiring in 1988. He owned and operated a gun shop for many years, along with the South Wallingford General Store from 1951-1961.

Mr. Brooks was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Wallingford.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including deer hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed coin collecting and country music.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Brooks of Wallingford; a daughter, Donna Brooks of Shrewsbury; a son, William Brooks III and wife Stephanie of Wallingford; two sisters, Mary Hubbard of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Adella Kilburn of Manchester; two half-brothers, Robert Brooks of North Carolina and John Brooks of Connecticut; also five grandsons, Ricky Davis and wife Tabitha, Tyler Davis and wife Tanya, William IV, Jeremiah and Nathaniel Brooks.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Diane; three brothers, Gerald Brooks, Peter Brooks and Corliss Brooks; a half-brother, Jerome Brooks, and two half-sisters, Esther Fleming and Bea Boutin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23rd, at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 22nd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Wallingford Aldous Funeral Home.
