Information from Hylton Oliver:

His primary occupation was that of an Accountant, however, upon inheriting a portion of

the farm 'Havreklip' he farmed until about 1913 when he moved to Germiston.

As a highveld farm Havreklip in its original form was probably a very good farm but I

believe the subdivision of the original resulted in a number of semi-viable units given the

stock carrying capacities and crop potential of that area.

We think that William Hart Browne sold his portion of the farm to other family members

to pursue the more viable and definitely less risky profession of accountancy.

During Paul Kruger's Presidency William Hart worked as a Court Interpreter interpreting

Dutch into English.

(The War Time records as presented by

the Compensation Claim by Charles Lennox Stretch Browne, was the only brother we

know who appeared to have ridden with the Kruger Commando made up of his wife's

brothers and a brother-in-law. (Tombi Peck)

He was an avid writer to newspapers, supported the United party but disliked Jan Hofmeyr

(Jan Smuts' second-in-command) intensely and wrote numerous letters to the newspapers

expressing his opinions of Hofmeyr.
