Research has been in progress for many years regarding the ancestry of Elihu and his wife, Celia. His descendents have now found there is no proof that his name was ever "William Elisha" Elihu Burnett. The 1840 Census of Coffee Co, TN shows his name as "Elihu" (District 13, page 184) with a wife and four sons, all under age ten and a female age 10-15.

It has also been proved that Elihu does not descend from John Burnett found in the 1830 Franklin County, Tennessee census nor does he descend from the Burnetts of Ley in Scotland. His ancestry will be shared soon.

The 1850 Census of Grundy County taken on September 9th (District 6, page 35, house #155) shows Elihu has died; Sela Burnet, was head of house, age 35. The following children were listed:

John, age 19 William, age 17 Stephen, age 16 Jefferson, age 11 Phelix G., age 6 James, age 2. Martha, (born after the census was taken in 1850).

Years later, the above Stephen had a son named Elijah Anderson Burnett 1861-1935. He told his daughter Ruby Pearl Milligan that he was named ANDERSON after his grandmother Celia's family.

Celia died in 1857 and was buried next to Elihu. Both are buried near the Elk River at what is now the junction of Interstate 24 and Tennessee state route 50.
