About William Calfee, II

William Calfee was a son of John "the Pioneer" Calfee and Sarah "Sallie" Riggan, both of whom were Irish Immigrants from Antrim, Northern Ireland.

After serving during the American Revolution, William migrated with his widowed mother and large family from Shenandoah County to Montgomery County in Virginia. William Calfee and Mary Wilson were married in Shenandoah County.

By 1780, he had acquired over 600 acres on the south side of New River below the mouth of Reed Island Creek in Wythe County, which was then part of Montgomery County. It was also near the mouth of Pine Run on the route of the Cherokee Trail where the family established Calfee's Ford or Ferry on the banks of New River.

William Calfee served as an Ensign in the County Militia; was recommended as Commissioner of the Peace and qualified as a Magistrate in 1790. He was then appointed one of the Trustees to establish the town of Wytheville, VA as the seat of Wythe County.

William Calfee died of cancer in 1801. William who was married to Mary Wilson, signed his will on September 16, 1801 & Proven on October 13, 1801.
