William Davis Calfee

Known to his friends and family as "Big Uncle Billy"; William Calfee was the 2nd son born to William Calfee (1743-1801) and Mary "Polly" Wilson Calfee (1753-1843).

"Big Uncle Billy" lived at "Topp's Bottom", 2 miles above the mouth of Big Island Creek near New River in Wythe County, VA.

William Calfee (1784-1853) married Nancy Davis Calfee (1778-1845) in 1804.

They were the parents of 4 children: Wilson Davis Calfee (1809-1892); Esther Calfee (1812-1890); John C. Calfee (1814-1888) and Rev. James Calfee (1817-1886).

"Big Uncle Billy" was a farmer and the Sheriff of Wythe County, VA in 1830.

In 1850, as a widower, he lived in Pulaski County with his unmarried daughter Esther Calfee. His family Bible was the source of many dates for his family.

The location of his burial is unknown.

He lived all his life in Wythe/Pulaski Counties, Virginia on Reed Island Creek near New River. He was a farmer and a sheriff of Wythe County in 1830. In 1850, as a widower, he lived in Pulaski Co. with unmarried daughter Esther, near sons John and Samuel. His family Bible, which provided many dates for his family, was owned by descendant Martha Dinkins of Mercer Co., WV.
