About William Horner Caparn, II
Professor of Music, Composer & Organist.
By the age of six he showed a distinct talent for music, in particular the piano. He attended music lessons in the evenings and led his school choir and orchestra.
In 1843 at the age of 15 he played the organ at Sunday Mattins at Newark Parish Church. By 1851 he was organist of Christ Church, Newark and in 1880 at St Leonard's. In 1864 he was appointed conductor of the Newark Musical Society and in 1865 commenced a BMus degree at Oxford, the expenses being defrayed by his pupils and friends.
In 1852 he was elected to the committee of the Newark Mechanics' Institute, and was also an active member of the Newark Rifle Club.
