4. William Cooke alias Carewe (Humphrey), of Cotton, co. Suffolk, Gentleman, the testator of 1572, born about 1518, died between 1 Aug. and 8 Nov. 1572Â
He married Elizabeth Cromer, sister of Thomas.
He owned a large estate in Cotton, Westhorpe, Finningham, Wyyerstone, and Mendlesham, co. Suffolk, and held an official position in the cellar of Queen Elisabeth. Considerable information about him is found in the suit in Chancery of Raynberd v. Cooke. His arms are given in the Blois MS. of 1655* as Sable, on a chevron argent between three demilions rampant or as many cinquefoils B.
