William Augustus Crabb and his brother Thomas Crabb who came from Falmouth, Cornwall County, England via their own privately owned ship with a stop in Ireland then to America and settled in Harrisburg and Middletown, Dauphin County (then part of Lancaster County), Pennsylvania just prior to the Revolutionary War.

William Crabb owned many houses and much property in Harrisburg and Middletown, Pennsylvania.

In the "Chronicles of Middletown, " C. H. Hutchinson, in 1906 wrote in great details much of the town's history. For instance, the Presbyterian graveyard passed through many owners, including, on June 7, 1802, WILLIAM CRABB, among others (page 18, C. of M). He further writes, in 1906,..."We have no data, however, respecting any church organization prior to 1850. The records are lost, having been probably been among the private papers of some one of the original members, who are all dead."

Dr. Egle's information on the second William Crabbe, who is identified by the present writer as son of the preceding, is herewith presented, save for references that pertain to the pioneer. He was born in 1744 [undoubtedly in Salem, Penna.], and died April 12, 1812, in Middletown, Penna. He married (1) Jane born probably about 1745, died Dec. 29, 1794; (2) March 17, 1800, at Sunbury, Penna., Elizabeth Kendig, of Swiss descent, bom Sept. 19,1778, died Aug. 6,1863.

William Crabbe was a prominent man in his day and filled several important official positions, including Collector of United States or direct tax in 1803. Children: By first marriage: 1. ["Abstracts of Wills and Administra tions, Northumberland County," Penna., shows that under will of William Plunkett, 1791, William Plunkett Crabb of Harrisburg was a legatee, and William Crabb, Harrisburg, executor.]
