William Eliot, of Cottered, Herts

William Eliot was born abt. 1450 and died by 1529 when his widow was involved in a lawsuit.

2. Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Songer) Wilson of Cottered, Hertfordshire. They had two children. After his death Elizabeth married Thomas Green of Stanford River, Essex.

3. John Eliot, Senior (c1485-1557), of Bishops Stotford, Hertfordshire married twice. The name of his first wife is unknown. He married second Margaret Shepey.
4. Robert Eliot (c1488-1551/2), of Hunsdon, Hertfordshire married Elizabeth _______.
5. John Eliot, Junior or "the younger" (c1495-1569/70), of Waltham Holy Cross, Essex, and Widford, Hertfordshire, married Joan ____.
6. Joan Eliot married John Haynes.
7. Peter Eliot (c1500-) married Bridget Watson

1. Richard Eliot (c1504-1607), married (1) Marion _____, (2) Catherine Tomson, (3) Elizabeth _______.
2. Daughter only identified as "daughter of Elizabeth (Wilson) (Eliot) Green and wife of John Fisher" in the will of her stepfather Thomas Green.

Notes

William's widow was named in a chancery suit dated between 1518 and 1529. This and another suit clearly show Elizabeth (Wilson) (Eliot) Green's first husband was William Eliot of Cottered, and not Thomas Eliot as claimed in the 1558 Essex visitation.
