About William Forrest

Nathan Bedford's father, William, later moved the family to Hernando, Mississippi. William was a blacksmith, and owned a few acres of land that provided just enough to support his wife and six sons (the oldest, Bedford, as well as John, Jesse, Jeffrey, William, and Aaron). Mariam actually bore eleven children, 5 of which died in their youth, including Fanny, Bedford's twin sister. Both William Sr. and Mariam were impressive in size, standing near six feet tall. William Sr. died in 1837, leaving his eldest son (only sixteen years old) to support and provide for the family in Mississippi. Bedford married Mary Ann Montgomery on September 25, 1845. She bore him two children, William (1846) and Frances (1848), the latter living only until 1853.
