About Dr William Carroll Frederick
William was one of eleven children of Joshua and Nancy Frederick and he was raised in Benton and Tippah Counties of eastern Mississippi. He probably got his medical training via a small regional medical school and an "apprenticship" with a local doctor. He married Frances Thompson in 1878 and started his family and first practice in Tippah County where his first three children were born: Modena;Howard;andPearle.
Sometime in the 1880s, William, his mother, and two brothers moved west and settled in Van Buren, Arkansas (just north of Fort Smith). The two brothers, Calvin and John, were beginning lawyers.
William and Frances had two more children in Arkansas: Zillah and Baker (Duke).
Sometime before 1890, the three brothers and their families moved to LeFlore County in Oklahoma (just west of Fort Smith). John and Calvin had a law partnership in Poteau and William had a medical practice in Spiro.
After William died in 1903, his family resettled in Arkansas.
